IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF RAWTENSTALL
WHO GAVE UP THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY
IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914 - 1918
HE WILL SWALLOW UP DEATH IN VICTORY AND THE
LORD GOD WILL WIPE AWAY TEARS FROM OFF THEIR FACES.
THIS CROSS WAS ERECTED BY CARRIE WHITEHEAD
SEPT 1915
THAT IT MIGHT BE SOME COMFORT TO THOSE
WHO LOST MEN VERY DEAR TO THEM
The memorial was erected 13 months after the outbreak of war with
9 names on it, and was added to throughout the war.
There are a total of 332 names from the two central wards of Rawtenstall on the memorial
The names will be added to this site later.
