"You will note me turned sideways and in shirt sleeves, next to old Bob on my left then Sammy
and old Bill about the middle
Unfortunately the chap spoilt the other plate and we therefore cannot obtain any prints of it."

In January 2006 I was contacted by Trevor Hudson who also has the same photo, which measures
approx 7 x 4½cms and has 66 Firing Line stamped down the LH side. James Starkie is in the centre
but Trevor was able to identify the soldier nearest the camera.
"The chap nearest the camera is my Great Uncle Deal 400 (S) Second Corporal David Maxwell Gordon
(Known as Max), 2nd Field Company, RND Engineers. He landed at ANZAC on 28th April, 1915
(at the age of 33) transferring to Cape Helles in time to be wounded in the head on 6th May, 1915.
He later returned to the Gallipoli Peninsula in mid June 1915, and despite being wounded a second time,
stayed until the evacuation in January, 1916.
Max later served on the Western Front with RND but was later transferred to the Royal Engineers.
Although he survived the Great War, he died years before I was born. "

The Depo Coy. RND F Two drummers on the front row.
There are two marks at the top of the photo, below the the left hand mark is Jack Nutter from Nelson
and below the larger mark is James Starkie
