There are four panels on the inside of the memorial bearing the names of over 680 men killed in the First World War

WALLACE HARTLEY

Next to the War memorial is a memorial to Wallace Hartley, the band leader from the Titanic who famously played on whilst the ill fated ship sank during her maiden voyage in 1912.

Wallace Hartley was born in Colne in 1878 and died aged 33,  his body was brought home and is buried in Colne Cemetery
