These 3 memorials stand outside the library which is on the corner of Cross Street and Market Street. This area is now known as Memorial Square.

The words read:

This memorial is dedicated to the Scouts from Nelson who died in the First World War. There were 105 Scouts from Nelson who gave their lives during the war.
The words read:
(Under the feet of the statue is the Scout motto)

TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE NELSON SCOUTS WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR
The memorial was originally erected in Victoria Park in 1919 and was moved to its present location in 1998 after being restored. It is the only one of its kind in the country. |

This is the new town memorial and records the names of over 1300 people from Nelson who died in various wars.
It includes casualties from the Boer war, Korea & Northern Ireland as well as over one thousand names from the First World War and 252 killed in the Second World War.
The memorial was unveiled by Lord Shuttleworth, the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire on 17 October 2009
and the Duke of Kent was present at the first Remembrance Day service on 8 November.
